Eric Calderwood "On Earth or in Poems"

The Department of Comparative Literature welcomes Eric Calderwood, Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He will discuss his recent book On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus (2023), which explores how contemporary artists, writers, and activists from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States create meaning from the memory of al-Andalus, the Iberian Peninsula ruled by a series of Islamic dynasties from 711 to 1492.
